SEALANTS

Be Preventive, Get Sealants.

Dental sealants are a great barrier to prevent cavities. Sealants are plastic materials that most commonly applied to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often.

Although brushing and flossing is essential to remove food particles and plaque from the smooth surfaces of your teeth, toothbrush bristles cannot fully reach into the depressions and grooves of your teeth. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by “sealing out” plaque and food.

Sealants are easy, quick, and painless to apply. Our dentists will paint sealants onto your tooth enamel. This plastic resin bonds directly into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of your back teeth, and hardens to fully “seal” everything together. This procedure is an efficient way to protect your enamel from plaque and acids. However, it is important that our patients ensure that sealant remains intact so that their tooth surface is protected from cavities.
